News J.C. Penney's CEO, Ron Johnson, stood up for the company's spokesperson, Ellen DeGeneres, who has been under attack from an anti-gay group. "We stand squarely behind Ellen as our spokesperson and that's a great thing, because she shares the same values that we do in our company," Johnson said on CBS This Morning. "Our compa […]
Technically, I’m not sure which round I’m on with this migraine, but it’s going Mike Tyson on me! I’m not sure the damned thing isn’t gonna bite my head off in a minute!
Anyway – today’s Liquid Lunch is about Tequila Whisperer and the LIVE show tonight!
There’s a new link to it, Bar Flies, so make sure you update and watch!
We are, slowly, moving forward. We are, slowly, moving the movement forward. But, there are still hurtles to overcome. Unfortunately, the greatest hurtle to overcome seems to be the largest gay lobby group, The Human Rights Campaign. HRC, for years, has taken the lead in pushing for gay rights. They now, sadly, stand behind the President. I say sadly because President Obama talks a good game, and it got him elected. He has yet to actually DO anything on the issue of gay rights.
As Tonic Thursday (with a splash of gin) is all about the good news from the GLBT community (with a side note of how far we have left to travel), I thought today’s liquid lunch should reflect that. Behold, Tonic Thursday’s Today in Gay! Sorry, you’re going to have to click “more” as today’s is a bit long-winded!
And don’t forget to watch the LIVE tequila show tonight on Tequila Whisperer – “STUMP th’ Lip!”
This week we have seen some very promising movement in the issues of same-sex rights. Though the last few years have seen bigoted and purposefully misleading groups advance their agenda against the LGBT community, most notably with passages of state constitutional amendments that either ban same-sex marriage (rather overkill as far as this writer is concerned, considering these states all had laws against it already), they are slowly being pushed back.
Don’t forget: LIVE show on Tequila Whisperer tonight! Chocolate & tequila, Ladies’ Night, Valentine’s Day stuff – grab your favorite tequila and settle in for some good watching! Click on TAKE ME TO TEQUILA to go!
This is not a happy one and not a political one, but this Cat was a huge fan of his. RIP: Alexander McQueen. (dlisted)
These two will make you laugh, though:
People losing their shit because it’s snowing. (AOL)
Tonic Thursdays are designed to give us a moment to reflect on all that is going right in our world. This week we have a good deal for which to be thankful. Bigotry has been given a nod to the back of the bus, so to speak, across this great nation of ours.
Tonic Thursday is a call to action day! As you cute little Bar Flies are well aware, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is on its way out the door! Bye! Don’t get hit on the way out!
I was searching headlines and stories for something inspiring for today. Something that made me smile and made me want to make you smile. Something, in short, to help me, help you. And I found it.
This is usually the time when we line up the shots on the bar and tell you Bar Flies to drink your lunch. Today is a bit different. Since I translated the actual State of the Union address into drunk-ese, now it’s time for the translation of the Republican response to the State of the Union.
Since the State of the Union actually made me smile a little bit (that could have been because I was playing the Huffington Post drinking game), I thought I would translate it into drunk-ese for all of us Drunk Bastards/Bitches. Here goes.
Tonic Thursday is here again, and we must ask ourselves, what could make us happy this week? Haitian earthquakes, divided Democrats, and moves against equal rights in several states do not give us much to celebrate. So, we will raise a glass of your favourite drink to the little things.
It seems to this humble editor that we are quick to loose sight of the small things that once made us happy. We occasionally stumble upon something that reminds us of a different time. I would not venture to say “simpler” time, but in many ways these childhood/adolescent memories are simpler, if only in our ignorance of the big bad world.
They still make pop rocks. I can no longer put an entire pack on my own tongue. There is a cable channel that shows nothing but the old 1970s and 1980s cartoons, back when they were still good. Smurfs, Snorks, Jabber Jaws… The Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pie is the same. The Banquet Chicken Pot Pie is the same.
Yesterday, my iPod decided to shuffle all the old school jams from middle and high school that I can still remember all the words to, and where I was when I would sing it. Thanks to technology we can remember, relive and keep these memories. It is in remembering the past that we can see where we want to go.
Take some time out to remember. If we forget, we will never be able to rise above the past.
Before we begin our regularly scheduled drinking already in progress, I would like to ask all you cute little Bar Flies to send all your best thoughts and prayers to our fellows in Haiti. Also, I would ask that you research what you can do to help the people of Haiti. Check out our Liquid Lunch from yesterday and there’s a link to Dave Barry’s blog which contains comments about what we can do to help Haiti after their catastrophic earthquake. Thank you.
Now, on to Tonic Thursday! It really is Tonic Thursday for me. In spite of all that is wrong right now, there is amusement to be had. Yes, it is in fact at someone else’s expense. Two people, as a matter of fact. Two very, very entertaining people.
Welcome back after our holiday hiatus, Bar Flies! Jack and I are sorry for the long break, but trust us when we tell you, we needed it and you wanted us to take it.
On the first day back, I figure we should ease back into our routine, so here are the New Year’s Resolutions for The Drunk Report:
Stop smacking people for saying “Happy New Decade,” because the new decade doesn’t start until January 1, 2011 (but then, you Bar Flies knew that).
Post thought-provoking, news-worthy, informative articles each and every day.
Make liquid lunch extra liquid-y.
Every Sunday post a laugh-out-loud weekly recap for the previous week.
Pour more alcohol into the recipes.
That’s about all we can think about right now. But then, we’re still getting over the New Year’s Eve hangover.
See you all for Liquid Lunch today and a really great article tomorrow!
