For seven and a half hours yesterday, our elected officials got together to see if they could hash out a compromise to the health care debate. Yet, at the end of those seven hours, they walked away with nothing. We have not moved forward one inch since this all began LAST summer, and to tell you the truth, dear Bar Flies, I’m done with compromise. I’m done playing nice and hoping that logical thought will prevail.
Imagine you are a runner, and you’re running a marathon. You get to the half-way point and look down at your watch and see you are off your pace. What do you do?

Here’s your SHOT for Saturday! And as it looks like health care in America is just about dead, I thought this would be a good shot.
INGREDIENTS:
- Aftershock
- Crème de Menthe liqueur
- Goldschlager
DIRECTIONS:
Pour into shot glass in order listed. Toast to the death of health care. Drink until you don’t really give a shit anymore. Prank call your congressman as his doctor telling him his health insurance has been declined and he owes you $500,000.

Will using budget reconciliation really give us health reform? Or is this more Republicanizing of what we need? Will there actually be health care? President Obama has come up with his own plan. (Crooks and Liars)RC2TY2WASWXH
And of course, Stephen Colbert brings us up-to-date on Republicans’ Political Suicide and the “Obama trap.” (The Colbert Report)
Jon Stewart discusses the “Apparent Trap” as well! (The Daily Show)

I saw this bumper sticker on the back of a truck as I drove to work this morning. I also saw a McCain/Palin sticker next to it and the number to one of the NASCAR racers as well. I let out a chuckle because the Lead, Follow sticker next to the Republican sticker was just full of symbolism.
For the past eight years our country was run by the worst of the worst. We watched as our Freedoms, jobs, and money were flushed down the toilet and when we finally had enough, we, as a country, threw the bums out-of-town only to be replaced with filthier bums.
We watched as Bush and Cheney loaded the Supreme Court with activist judges while complaining that the courts were full of activist judges. We watched as our Department of Justice was ransacked and purged of the men and women who didn’t agree or toe the party line.

If you were to ask a person on the street how they would define America I’m sure you would get many answers. You might get that we are a proud people and they would be right. Someone might say we are a Democracy and again they would be right. Others would say we are a capitalist country and yes they would be right as well. So lets look at what it means to be a capitalist nation.

In honor of our newest bartender, Harvey Wallbanger, here’s the shot that goes with his name! I know a typical Harvey Wallbanger is basically a screwdriver with a float of Galliano, but this is a shot that will, at the very least, make your head bang on the floor after a few. A Cat Martini invention, just for you Bar Flies, baby!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 part Stoli vodka
- 1 part Grand Marnier
- 1/2 part Galliano
DIRECTIONS:
Pour Stoli and Grand Marnier in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a double shot glass. Float Galliano on top. Shoot and repeat.

This phrase is one of the most popular phrases in America. We consider these three simple things as unalienable rights for every single man, woman and child. Yet in America many people are losing these rights while many are having to choose which right they need the most today.
They are having to choose whether to give up their pursuit of happiness to keep the very expensive health insurance they get with their job. We are giving up the very liberty that people died to give us because we are becoming beholden to large corporations that truly run our government. This truly makes me want to down a fifth of vodka.

Okay, so Obama has finally realized that he has to begin keeping his promises. For a year he has been bashed from the Left and the Right for his actions and inactions. His Progressive message on the campaign trail made him almost a folk-hero. He could do no wrong.
Then he gets in office. Now, I am fully aware that the economic crisis was of utmost importance. I understand that he did not create it, and inherited it from an unscrupulous financial culture. I understand that jobs and financial security tend to take preference over social activism.
However, this is no reason for him to completely and totally ignore the LGBT community. First off, he sent his wife to address the gay Democratic caucus. Then he promised an end to Dont Ask Don’t Tell. A year in, and he has done nothing on either, and even DEFENDED the Defence of Marriage Act. This discriminatory policy was incanted under the George W. Bush administration. The Obama administration uses language such as “incest” and “bestiality” to defend it.
You, Mr. Obama, are an Executive. Execute! I understand why you need to work with Congress, and not just ram legislation down the throats of Congress, especially after the neo-fascist regime of Dubya. Finally, on the anniversary of his historic election, he finds his cojones and pulls them out. Fuck being the nice guy, you are a president. You are there to lead, not do PR for wimpy liberal policies that always end up with the Right up in arms and the Left divided because some say it’s too far, and others not far enough.
Congratulations Mr. Obama. May you keep this momentum.

Rush Limbaugh needs our help, Bar Flies! We must rush to aid Rush as soon as possible! He’s in dire straights! Yup, we need to round up a shovel, or perhaps a back-hoe, as Rush is getting exhausted digging his own grave with his hands.
Let’s all grab a cocktail and toast to Rush Limbaugh and his militant stupidity! Rush may win this week’s Reason to Binge Drink award…but then again, there’s been so much rabid idiocy this week, I’ll have to do a thorough examination tomorrow.

Morning to all! Cracking open my first cold one of the morning, I was thinking about what has been going on in the world this week. The start of the Proposition 8 trial in California, the Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin interview, the Haitian Earthquake, and finance executives getting roasted on Capitol Hill. All in all, it was a busy week for the news.
The Haitian crisis certainly takes the centre stage. The millions affected, not to mention the years, if not decades of recovery for this poor nation have galvanized the world into cooperation that it has been lacking.

Time to line up at the bar for Shots on Saturday. We’re gonna need a few rounds to deal with today’s topic. Hate, California’s Proposition 8, equal protection under the law, and unconstitutionality will be draining our liquor cabinet. Get ready.
California’s Proposition 8 (Prop 8 ) is an example of why the federal courts need to step in on the issue of same sex marriage. Prop 8 is unconstitutional. Period. The California Supreme Court may have upheld it in line with the state constitution, but it negates the equal protection under the law guaranteed by the United States Constitution.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is where the next battleground over the controversial Prop 8 will be heard. Chief judge Alex Kozinski of the 9th Circuit is allowing cameras in the courtroom – a new step, as most federal courts do not allow recording. As the Prop 8 case will not be heard by a jury, Judge Kozinski has decided to use cameras as a “pilot program.”

This guy, Russell Wiseman, mayor of Arlington, TN is a butt-nugget. Yes, that is a new term here at The Drunk Report. When some right-wing-nut goes above and beyond (or left-wing-nut) fuck-tard (or ass-hat, the term for left-wing-nuts) they turn into a butt-nugget. Evidently, Mayor Butt-Nugget hasn’t heard that the President has bigger fish to fry than Charlie Brown. Also, get a DVD player already! My 2 yr old watches this movie every day. (CBS News)
OK, this ass-hat needs a lesson in nepotism. (Instapundit)
It’s so funny when the Dems beat the fuck-tards at their own game! I just love it! (Washington Monthly)
Ooooh, Texas may get a Democrat as governor! This will be one to watch! (Politics Daily)
A Republican with some sense! California US Senate candidate Carly Fiorina on the importance of mammograms. (Marathon Pundit)
A great post on Towleroad: Portia de Rossi v Elisabeth Hasselbeck. I know, it’s like watching an intelligent, poised woman who happens to be a lesbian trout-slapping an IQ-challenged carp. Oh, wait, it is exactly that! (Towleroad)

Today being Shots on Saturday, I thought it was high time to educate you, my little Bar Flies, on Blue Laws. In order to change ridiculous alcohol laws, we must first understand what led to them and what the obstacles are to changing them. Information is the greatest ammunition.
A Time article earlier this year brought attention to Sunday blue laws – laws that restrict alcohol sales on Sundays. Having grown up in a blue law state – Georgia – I can personally vouch for the large pain-in-the-ass these laws can be. Sunday football for example. You’re having a football party, you run out of beer, well, you’re out of beer. There is no place in the entire state in which you can buy an extra 6 pack if you need it.

Good weekend to you, Bar Flies. I believe the word Saturday has mystical powers. It imbues us all with joy. The work-week is over (except for those in service industries, so tip them well). Ah, Saturday. Just saying it makes you relax.
Today heralds the silly alcohol law for the week. Also, a delicious shot recipe can be found here at The Drunk Report.
So, go have a Sex on a Pink Elephant and enjoy your weekend. You’ve earned it!
ahhhhh….
Cat.

As the elephants aren’t allowed to drink in Natchez, MO, perhaps we could all do one of these shots near them, maybe they’ll get a buzz off the smell.
