The Enemy Within.

by Jack Manhattan

Well, it seems that people are afraid of the word “homosexual”. (or homosexical as I like to say) When asked in separate polls, Americans were all for “gays and lesbians” in the military, just not “homosexuals”. It is very interesting that a word is so visceral.

While there is a clear move in society towards the acceptance of homosexuality in society, the word itself is still a lightning rod. Gay is okay. Lesbian is acceptable. But “homosexual”, thanks to elementary school scare tactics, is a scary word.

It is very clinical.

But guess what, after the Clinton Administration and the word “penis” becoming common verbiage, how is homosexual a bad word. Thanks to the societal connotation about the word children are warned about “homosexuals” and “Chester the Molester” and then the people who are so inclined are the enemy.

Oh, the gay guy down the street or the lesbian across the way is okay. There is nothing wrong with them. They are good neighbours. They keep their lawns clean, and help with the neighbourhood watch. But the “Homosexuals” are a monolithic unit that seeks to destroy your happy family. We are out to touch your children inappropriately. We do not want to make a mockery of the happy home life you share with your husband/wife and children.

So, stop thinking about the “homosexuals” and think about real people and relatives that see you in the supermarket. We like you. We do not look in your windows. Please stop presuming about ours.
