Welcome to Whiskey Wednesday! We’re starting off today defining the terms in the title. Yes, I do have a point and I will get to it quickly.
Traitors: (according to Webster) “1. one who betrays another’s trust or is false to an obligation or duty. 2. one who commits treason.”
Treason: (according to the US Constitution)
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
Terrorist: (according to Princeton) “a radical who employs terror as a political weapon; usually organizes with other terrorists in small cells; often uses religion as a cover for terrorist activities.”
And just to make sure all the ground is covered:
Terror: (again, Princeton) “the use of extreme fear in order to coerce people (especially for political reasons).”
Now that we all know the definitions of these terms, let’s ask a few questions.
Who, in Washington, is betraying the trust and obligations entrusted them by American citizens?
Who, in Washington, is providing aid and comfort to the enemy by preventing the federal government from working? And they’re doing it openly and with pride, therefore confessing their treason?
Who, in Washington, is employing the use of fear in order to coerce people for political reasons and using religion as a cover?
See where I’m headed, Bar Flies? Yup, none other than the Republican Party. I know it sounds far-fetched to some of you, but bear with me.
Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) has been the most notorious of these offenders. He put a blanket hold on all executive nominations until he got his pet pork. What does that sound like? A terrorist. Fear: nominations will be held up indefinitely, key Defense Department roles will sit empty, government operations will cease. Coercion for political reasons: he wants his earmarks, dammit and he doesn’t care who gets hurt. Religion as a cover: he’s a Republican, this part is the most obvious.
Also, it’s pretty obvious he’s a traitor. He is betraying the trust given to him by his constituents and by America. He is betraying his obligation to do actual work in the government and not hold it up.
Treason, check. How do you think it looks to all the bin Laden types out there when our own elected officials betray their duty? It gives them even more reason to believe we are in need of destruction. Also, Shelby admitted to the blanket holds – he confessed. Sign him up for a jail cell!
Then, there’s the rest of the Republicans. They want to filibuster everything. In fact, there’s talk of getting rid of the the filibuster just because of the Republicans’ abuse of it.
Shelby isn’t alone in blocking nominees. Recently, a routine nominee for the National Labor Relations Board was blocked by the Republicans (with two traitorous Democrats sticking with them) and with the flimsiest excuses. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) came to the conclusion that since the Republicans stalled so long with pages and pages of questions to the candidate, then the candidate shouldn’t be confirmed because of the level of scrutiny. That doesn’t even make sense!
And I’m all for sticking those two Democrats in the same jail cell as the Republicans for allowing this sort of crap to keep going. I’ve had it with the Party of No.
The Republicans are forgetting that it was their policies that got us into this mess in the first place. What do they want? More of the same bullshit. What will that do? Drive us further into recession and closer to a depression.
Courtesy of the Republicans we’ve got two wars, Wall Street run amok, housing boom and bust, economy in the shitter, jobs going, going, gone and no health care reform.
Sounds like they are betraying their country and its principles. Looks like they are hunkering down under the cover of “God” and evangelical Christianity. They admit and brag about blocking nominations and legislation and holding the federal government hostage for their own political games. They’re even saying that they won’t even begin to talk about health care reform unless the Democrats scrap the bill and take reconciliation off the table. Just more obstruction.
This is the party who wants to gut our military of qualified men and women who are volunteering for the privilege of getting shot at in the two wars generated by the Republicans, just because these fine folks happen to be homosexual. Sounds like aid and comfort to the enemy to me! We get rid of qualified people who could help us win these wars – we spend millions of dollars to get rid of them – and somehow that’s a good thing?
The Republicans prey on the fears of the majority of Americans. Those Americans who are working two jobs and don’t have the time to read up on the latest Republican obstruction job. Those Americans who have been hornswoggled into thinking Fox News is an actual news station. They use terror more effectively than any al Qaeda cell could do.
Am I mad? Yes, I’m fucking pissed! I’ve had it with these assholes who do nothing but hold up progress and wallow in their pig pits of pork and perks.
I say: throw them out of office and in a jail cell until they decide to actually do their fucking jobs. If you or I failed as astronomically as they are failing at our jobs, we’d be unemployed. Oh, wait, we didn’t fail at our jobs, but because they are failing, we are unemployed.
