I must admit to being unbelievably proud of the Navy today. I have always been proud of our troops – the Navy in particular as my husband happens to be in it – but today, I am so proud of the Navy’s top dog.
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen has come out in favor of repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell! Go Admiral Mullen! Alright!! Woo-hoo!!!! Yeah!!!
I heard this today and was so excited! The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs – who is a NAVY guy, GO NAVY!! – is in favor of equality! He is in favor of allowing honorable men and women to serve honorably without being discriminated against based on sexual orientation.
He totally came down on the side of angels today. He said that he is “troubled by the fact that we have in place a policy which forces young men and women to lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens.” FINALLY!!! Somebody said it! You go, boy!
He actually said he was calling for the repeal on his own, for himself, his personal integrity – he’s got to be the only one left up there with any personal integrity! I’m giving it to him, though!
But of course, there are those who don’t want to hear it. Like Congressman Duncan Hunter, Republican from California, who came down on the side of fuck-tards everywhere in his NPR interview yesterday afternoon.
I heard that bullshit and was about to get pissed, but then realized how truly stupid this guy sounded. Let me give you some quotes from this complete Congressman Douchebag:
“…if you open up the military to transgenders and hermaphrodites…that’s going to be part of this whole thing…they’re going to let anybody in…it’s going to be just like civilian life and that will be detrimental to the military.”
When questioned as to why it is such a big, fucking deal to have openly gay/lesbian service members:
“The majority of the people in the military…it would, frankly, make everybody uneasy…you know, the shower situation, the bathroom situation….we have men and women separated for the sexual situation…”
When the NPR interviewer mentioned that there were already gay and lesbian members of the armed forces, they just weren’t open about it, so the shower and bathroom situation was already there, Congressman Hunter basically made the point for repealing DADT with the closing part of his statement.
“…but they aren’t open about it…you don’t care one way or the other as long as they get their particular job done, that’s why Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell has worked…”
And when asked about the other countries’ militaries Admiral Mullen cited as successful with openly gay and lesbian service members, Hunter had this to say:
“…we have a superior military…that’s why we’re the world’s security force…”
Ok, I gotta say it, can we make this guy the spokesperson for those in favor of keeping Don’t Ask Don’t Tell? He’s such a fool he makes the position almost laughable.
I have to wonder, how many of these arguments were used when integration was forced on the military. After all, I bet some of those “conservative” types weren’t so happy to have *gasp* black people openly serving next to *gasp* white people!
And of course, everyone’s favorite Always the Bridesmaid Never the President, John McCain whining about how disappointed he is in Admiral Mullen for sticking his neck out for those serving our country honorably. McCain is really good at reminding me why in hell I couldn’t vote for him. I would’ve stabbed myself in the eye with my voting instrument before I voted his dumb, old ass in!
McCain wants every member of the Joint Chiefs to say whether they agree with Admiral Mullen or not because he’s being a whiny little cry-baby and needs somebody in the military to agree with him. After all, he is the John McCain who got medals and tortured and captured. Yes, I admire what he went through for our country, but let me tell you something, Bar Flies, just because you’ve got a medal doesn’t make you a good person.
I know personally a few people who only got medals because those under them cared more about our country than about ass-kissing and got shit done. Those same medal-laden slack-asses took all the glory and gave out no kudos to their men…and the medals they got aren’t worth two shits. I don’t care how many medals you’ve got, it doesn’t make you a leader and it doesn’t make you a good person.
I also know that some people deserve medals that don’t get them. Some brave men and women out there stick their necks on the line and get what? Kicked the fuck out under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. So, Senator McCain, I’ve got a few good words for your old, medal-laden ass: SHUT THE FUCK UP!
You may have served in the military – want a cookie? You got captured and tortured – want a hankie? Wow! Congrats! You got your big, fat Red Badge of Courage and now you’re using it to fuck over America!
You should be solidly ashamed of yourself for not taking a stand next to Admiral Mullen in support of our brave service members. You shouldn’t be able to look your wife in the eye – your wife, Cindy, who came out against Prop 8. You, Senator John McCain are a GIANT FUCKING EMBARRASSMENT to the United States of America and the military and the NAVY!
On the other hand, I stand firmly next to Admiral Mullen in saluting ALL of our men and women in uniform. They deserve our respect. They deserve their dignity. They deserve to have the people who love them most standing beside them at medal pinnings and award ceremonies and greeting them when they get off the plane from deployment and being flown by the military to their side when they are injured and having the common decency of a military chaplain coming to their door and delivering the news when they die in the line of duty.
They do not, Senator McCain, deserve your dishonoring of their service. You, Senator McCain, you pompous old windbag of a bigot, you deserve nothing more than to be stripped of your medals and thrown ignominiously out of office.
