Yes, dear Bar Flies, we took the weekend off – travel, holiday parties, we would have been completely incoherent anyway.
As of today, we are back in action! Martini Monday is striking again! And this time, the focus of our ire is the US Army. Well, one guy in particular. His name is Major General Anthony Cucolo. I vote to re-christen him Major General Culo! Because this is one big ole ass!
This Culo has stated if a married female soldier gets pregnant by her husband (and presumably anyone else – but this rule is aimed at married female soldiers) while she is on active duty in a war zone, she will be subject to court martial and jail time.
The Daily Mail posted this story yesterday and it blows my mind. The United States already has a bad name in many countries, especially over “alleged” torture and “alleged” rendition (“alleged” as in Kathy Griffin’s version) and now we’re going to throw pregnant soldiers in jail. Good one, Culo! Pin a Bronze Star on that plan!
Oh, and he also wants to throw the husband in jail for impregnating his wife! Really? Since when can the military court martial and throw private citizens in jail? I’d like to know when I gave up my rights to the military. As a military spouse, that’s a question I want answered.
Let me get this straight, water-boarding gets you promoted, pregnancy gets you thrown in jail. Hmmm, something in the kool-aid ain’t so fresh.
I find this ethically and morally repugnant. Especially considering the US Army is perfectly happy to kick out willing, able and extremely qualified soldiers based on being homosexual.
Correct me if I’m wrong: gay or lesbian soldiers who are engaging in sex that won’t result in pregnancy will get kicked out for it. Gay or lesbian soldiers who are some of these exact soldiers with “critical skills” will get kicked out under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. And female soldiers are twice as likely to get “outed” under DADT as male soldiers.
Now, female soldiers who toe the military line and have procreation-oriented sex will get “outed” for doing so. Ummm…huh?
Hey, Major General CULO! News flash, just for you! If you don’t want to lose critical soldiers, how about not kicking them out under DADT? How about issuing an order to ignore DADT during this war time and in war zones?
You might not lose as many qualified soldiers with critical skills if you did that. Also, you might not be further tarnishing the US’ human rights image abroad by jailing pregnant soldiers. You really are a big, fat CULO, aren’t you?
Chalk up another one to Army intelligence! Oh, and coming from a Navy wife, maybe something like this is why Army can’t win football games. I’m just sayin’.
