Weekend Update: Obama v. W

by Sandra Neish

Fall back time, Bar Flies.  The clocks go back an hour and darkness falls sooner.  Is this a euphemism for the current state of affairs?

The Obama administration appears to be picking up where W left off on certain matters.  Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell has yet to be repealed.  They’re apparently working on it.  Whatever.

Now, the administration is attempting to block access to “classified” information regarding purported warrantless wiretapping begun during the Bush administration.  That’s Bush with a W, or, as I sometimes call him Number 2.

At the same time, the White House visitor’s log has been released – well 110 names have anyway.  Among the priviledged few are Oprah (duh), George Clooney (hmmm), and Bill Gates (ok).  This number is roughly a quarter of the names on the log.  President Obama is choosing to ignore 2 separate court rulings indicating the visitor’s log must be disclosed and is following in the footsteps of all his predecessors in calling it “voluntary.”

And of course, Fox News is bringing up the so-called “death panel” again.  Honestly, if this is an example of real, unbiased reporting, then I’m a teetotalling nun:

And the weekend wouldn’t be complete without hearing from the Bush clan.  After W, you’d think they’d just shut up and fade into the background, but the Bush kids don’t know when to quit.  Jeb Bush has been accusing President Obama of “attacking capitalism.” Yet, we didn’t hear one damned word from him when his brother was waging war on civil liberties.

That about wraps up my weekend review for you, Bar Flies.  Don’t forget to read the recipe, Liquid Lunch and the Letter from the Editor.
